The Royals are Almost Finished

I'm not sure if I'm going to add the colored sashes I was going to put on them... I might just get the pieces done, then work on sashes if I still have time.

Working on the King

Base for Black Chess Piece

Sorry I didn't post yesterday... I couldn't make it to the Mac lab to get to more lessons.  But, I have a base for my king piece.  This pic looks different because I am working on 2010 version while IT has my lap top.

Class project

Okay, so I did this one before class, but we did the same basic thing in class.

Finished Lesson 8! Just on Time!

I finished lesson 8, Applying Textures! I didn't take any screenshots (I forgot), but I did watch all of them!!

Finished Lesson 7

I'm going to have to watch lesson 8 in the morning... I'm sorry... I take longer than most people... I'm just learning all of this and there are a few other conflicting things day to day. :(  Also... I don't function late at night... I sleep around 12 at the latest, and I like to be in bed by 10.  I know I'm weird.

Working in Lesson 7 with Textures and Rendering

I'm watching the Lesson 7 vids now.  I took a shot of the adding a file image to an object part (the image is a random picture I found from a favorite artist).

Finished Lesson 6

I'm done with Lesson 6 in the tutorials! The screenshot is the video on how to use the Outliner menu.  I have been highlighting a few of the vids for future reference, so I'll know where to go when I have problems.

Lesson 5

So this post is all from lesson five.  I only took a picture of my attempt at lofting from a surface curve and the example of the fillet tool.  I have watched all of the lesson five vids, I just didn't take pictures of all of them.
oh, P.S. please feed my fish on the blog! (the fish gadget just made my day!!)

Finally Through all of the Material Covered in the 2008 Version

I am currently on lesson 5 as I post this.  I work slow, huh? Sorry.  In my defense this is all new to me. Photoshop was new to me when I got to college.  Tiny town Missouri doesn't typically invest in computer programs, or art programs for that matter.
I made a tunnel in a box and was happy to see that one of the new curve functions was the same as the ones in Adobe.  I haven't taken a screen shot of every lesson, so as to save some space, but I have watched them and learned what they are discussing.

Life Intercedes so Still on Polygons, but Hope to finish with Lesson 6 Today

Had a bit of trouble with friends, so that took a bit of time after church this morning/afternoon.  But, now I'm working away.  I didn't manage to get any lessons done while baking yesterday, so I'm behind, but I'll catch up.  I would bring some for everyone on Tuesday, but they're kind of falling apart... messed up with the recipe.
As far as the lessons go, it's still a bit difficult to keep up with the videos on a small screen.  Jeff, if you read this, is it alright for us to find a connector to the Mac Lab computers so we can make our laptop and the monitors in the lab one big screen?

The combine tool looks like it's going to be really handy.

Slow Going

Right now I'm just getting through the stuff we've already learned (no, I haven't really watched any lessons since Thursday, I've been busy with other priorities).
I have found that just a laptop screen is too small to do these lessons and keep up.
I hope it's alright for me to be working for a couple more days....

Saturday Work

Ok, so I am going to post more throughout the day, working through lesson 8.  It might take me until Sunday to get through them all, but I'm going to have them done this weekend!! This morning and afternoon I just have to do them while baking (I made a prior promise).  If there are enough leftovers, maybe I can try to bring some for the class on Tuesday.  Are we still having pizza?

Starting the 2011 Maya Tutorials

So now we've started the 2011 Maya tutorials.  Since we have exactly the right files it's easier to follow along with the lessons.  These screenshots are from the first ten lessons.  It's good to have an update on the stuff we learned from the 2008 version.  I think I'm starting to understand a bit better.

This picture shows adding texture.  This wasn't in the 2008 vids, so I learned something new! Yay!

I liked the little help boxes they've added in these videos.

Also, I didn't really understand from the 2008 videos how to move a pivot point, but now I do. :)

From a weird table thing to NURBS

I don't remember the tool I was using to make the weird table (extrude I think).

This one was figuring out bevel. It automatically beveled all sides, so I'm guessing that's something I'll have to go change in the bevel options, right?

Now we're working with NURBS.  I got stuck for a minute and then realized I had to switch from polygons to surfaces in the top left drop down menu.

The files to make the chair weren't in the files we were given... I managed to figure out how to make a similar frame though.  Even so, the tube doesn't match the curve I created, even though it was set to follow "on path."

Learning Polygons

Finished lesson two and got tired of bad colors

I like these colors better... so I just played around a bit.  I made the bowl smaller again. This is getting pretty fun... and we haven't even made anything yet :D

learning slowly but surely!

Learning rotating
Learning scaling

And changing colors and transparency (I made the bowl purple and solid)

And all of this while sitting comfy in my PJs with my ginger tea... life is good.

I spoke too soon!

Okay, so once the Lynda Tutorial got to the part of moving stuff around I got it. I think I was just confused when a few of the right files were missing.  But, with the move, rotate, etc. tutorial, it doesn't really matter if it's exactly the right scene, just so long as there are movable objects, right?
I have a few screen shots that I took with the Grab application (I forgot the quick keys), then cropped down to the necessities.  The first one is what the original kitchen setting looked like, and the second one is after I moved things around a bit.

Now that I can do something this is more fun!

having trouble

I really don't understand what is going on in these tutorials.  Is there such a thing as a cheap, step by step Maya book?  I'm sorry, but I have a very hard time learning like this.  Is there a way to supplement it?

Getting started

Hey, I'm totally new to this whole blog thing.
But, just updating to say that I've downloaded Maya and Mudbox.  I'll have to set up parallels to run the others I think.  So, will do that later.
